Closet Status

I am a working professional, so my closet mostly consists of work clothes – in other words boring.  Let me not say boring, because people at work applaud my sense of style. I work in a business-casual environment where people hardly ever dress up. It’s mostly the 20-30 something year olds who take initiative to look nice. For a while, I did not have that many casual clothes.  I realized this especially on Casual Friday’s where you’re allowed to wear jeans and dress down. I would wear the same thing over and over again. Being that I’m tall, it’s hard for me to find well-fitted pants. Now I’m only down to one pair of ill-fitting jeans (yuck).

Another thing I realized is that I don’t own a lot of evening (not to be confused with clubbing) wear.  So if I happen to score a date, the big question is “what am I going to wear?” During college days our closets were filled with jeans, fashionable tops and clubbing-wear.  You had to look good in and out of class. I was too broke to afford nice clothes but I always found a way to get very cheap, nice-looking clothes.  My friends on the other hand were fashionistas.  When summer break was over and the weekend before classes resumed, we always got together to discuss how summer went, what we were wearing that night, drinks of choice and party/club location. Then they would unleash their new trendy clothes.  Lucky for me, they didn’t mind sharing clothes. Oh, I miss those days!!!

Now there’s no one to borrow clothes from. First of all, I live by myself and like how I dress.  I’m just tired of the shades of gray, black, brown, blue winter tones of my closet- I’m ready for spring to spring, so I can look all flowery, cheery and colorful.  I am happy to say that I wear all the items in my closet.  I am a very good shopper and only buy items that are versatile and can be worn throughout the year. I’ve invested in a lot of sheath dresses where you can switch the look but adding a cardigan and jewelry.

A few items that I would like/love to own:

1. A designer handbag

2. Boyfriend blazer

3. Leather jacket

4. Subtle, floral dresses

5. Good-fitting skinny jeans

6. Comfortable hills

    Why the boyfriend blazer?

I don’t pay much attention to how I dress but all I can say is: I need more/better clothes! Also, there is no summer/spring nonsense so my clothes last all year round, and when they get too old, I replace them.

That’s why I miss living in Kenya, where it’s hot, cold or rainy. I hate wearing bulky clothes during the winter.

The boyfriend blazer, well, I find that this blazer is very versatile. You can dress it up or casual it down. I hate blazers, but want to own one without the 80’s shoulder-pad look.

I should probably get a boyfriend blazer too, just to try out a new versatile look
